Sudoku History

The term ‘sudoku’ was created in Japan in the 1980s, but the number puzzles are much older than that! Similar number grid puzzles first appeared in newspapers in France in the late 19th century, but disappeared shortly after World War I. The sudoku game that we know today emerged decades later, in 1979 in Indiana. Sudoku puzzles did not immediately become popular in the United States, but they thrived in Japan in the late 1900s. In the beginning of the 21st century, United States newspapers began carrying sudokus and they took off, along with web Sudoku puzzles!
